Research Project for the Establishment of a (Re-)Sequencing Hub in Saarland
preAIrranging marks the launch of a joint research project by abat+ GmbH, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), and Saarland University. The project, which is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and co-financed by the European Union, aims to establish an open and scalable (re)sequencing hub that can optimize production and other sequential decision-making processes using data and AI. The project is led by Philipp Stopp (abat+ GmbH), Timo Philipp Gros (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence), and Prof. Dr. Verena Wolf (Saarland University).
The project stems from the increasing complexity of production and planning processes. Varying product configurations, shorter innovation cycles, and dynamic operating conditions are increasingly pushing traditional planning systems to their limits. This is exactly where preAIrranging comes in.
During the first year of the project, the focus will be on establishing the technological infrastructure, designing the platform and dashboard, and integrating existing preliminary work into the new solution. This will be complemented by research on digital twins and AI-supported resequencing. The goal of the project is to finalize the design of the hub and thereby lay the groundwork for its future practical use. Initial solution approaches are intended to demonstrate how AI can support planning and sequencing tasks in the future. In addition, a follow-up project, reAIrranging, is already planned.
We are pleased to move this initiative forward together with our project partners and thus contribute to the further development of innovative AI technologies in Saarland.
