Free space is always individual, from colleague to colleague, from team to team, from customer to customer. Here we show examples of individual free space implementations - become a part of it!

Everyone is doing Workation. You want that too?

Sure, since Corona mobile working is not a big thing anymore. But it never was for us anyway. Haven't you ever dreamed of working in the mountains or on the beach? Or simply going on a trip around the world and still keeping your job? Then please pack your suitcase now. Where you do your work from is basically of secondary importance to us - in other European countries you can even work remotely for up to half a year.

What's the catch? No catch. We only attach importance to two things: colleagues, project managers and customers agree to mobile working. And of course the results have to be right. If that's the case, have fun swimming, hiking or surfing.

Personal responsibility counts

Speaking of surfing. We have created the organizational and technical conditions to enable our employees to work on the move. With smartphones and laptops, working abroad is no problem. And if there's no Internet at all: Our notebooks are equipped with LTE cards.

The rest is up to you. Because we rely to a large extent on the self-organization of our employees. Blocking free times in the calendar, entering break times, keeping appointments and communicating availability - in the mobile office, self-responsibility and self-discipline are required. All fine words? No, take Jendrik, SAP consultant and enthusiastic kite surfer, for example.

Meetings from the camper

"abat is different from other companies. We work hard and a lot, but we also have all the freedom we need to make our work life as enjoyable as possible." That happens, for example, when Jendrik grabs his kite gear and camper and heads to the Baltic Sea on Thursday evenings. "I can easily attend the meetings on Friday from the camper remote. I just set up with the camper where I still have LTE. After that, I grab my wetsuit and hit the water."

The freedom abat offers is one reason Jendrik has stayed with the company for over seven years. "When I heard back then that abat had a cool work culture, I didn't really believe it. Now I know."

Off into the world

Or take Tobias, a backend developer in St. Ingbert, who fulfilled a lifelong dream under the South African sun: "I worked from Cape Town in 2019 and then added a month of vacation." And because that worked out so well, two years later it was off into the wide world for even longer. "When I asked my superiors if I could take unpaid leave to travel around the world, I fell on open ears. After a few conversations about scheduling, with the team and the division manager, I got the OK." With leftover vacation from the previous year and new vacation from the current year, Tobias was actually able to spend four months abroad.

Tobias, in his spare time: adventurer and globetrotter

"The great thing was that I got a vacation even though I wasn't entitled to one yet, because the new year was just starting then." His trip: a six-week sailing trip in the Caribbean, followed by an expedition to the jungle between Panama and Colombia and then to the Galapagos Islands. Tobias: "I am abat grateful that the company gave me this opportunity."
