Space for projects close to your heart

At abat, it's all about people with passion – not just for IT, but also for social engagement. We give our team the freedom to combine professional goals with personal passion projects.

Betül and Elwin show how they use this freedom to help others while growing themselves.

Between code and social commitment

Family, career and social commitment - for Betül, all of these areas are inextricably linked. Growing up in Bremen, she not only found her home here, but also her career path. Her connection to abat began through a close friend whose father was already working as a consultant for the company. The positive conversations and insights into the corporate culture aroused her curiosity, so after school she decided to become part of the team herself.

In 2010, she began her training as an IT specialist for system integration and then worked in internal IT for eight years. But Betül wanted to develop further - and so she moved to the subsidiary abat+ for six years, where she worked intensively on the PLUS software solution. Nevertheless, her connection to abat always remained, and in November 2024 she returned to continue her old role in internal IT with renewed vigor . For her, it is not only a return to the company, but also a new chapter full of exciting challenges.

An honorary position that moves hearts

In addition to her work in IT, Betül has been volunteering at the transition home in Bremen-Hastedt for almost a year. As an exercise instructor, she helps children with their homework and assists in the clothing store, where she sorts donations and distributes them to the residents. For her, however, the hostel is much more than just a place to stay - it is a place of arrival, community and hope, where people not only find support, but also new perspectives.

Betül is particularly fascinated by the variety of rooms available to the residents. The clothes room is often the first place to go - families can get urgently needed clothes and shoes here. Just a few steps away is the painting room, where children can give free rein to their creativity with colorful paints, brushes and canvases. For those who want to work out physically, there is the sports area - a large area with dumbbells and punching bags, which gives residents space to burn off energy and clear their heads. And then there's the tea room, a cozy meeting place where adults and young people can come together, chat and leave everyday life behind for a moment.

Each of these rooms has its own significance, but it is only through people's commitment that the dormitory becomes the special place that it is for so many. What she experiences here shows her time and again how crucial a supportive environment is - whether in voluntary work or in professional life.

Shaping together, growing together

For Betül, her voluntary work is therefore more than just a job - it is a matter close to her heart. "It makes me happy to help people who need support. I firmly believe that we can create a better world together," she says with conviction.

This attitude characterizes not only her voluntary work, but also her work at abat. The company enables her to reconcile her career and social commitment - not as a balancing act, but as a natural part of her everyday life. Flexible working hours and an open working atmosphere give her the freedom to develop both professionally and personally. But abat goes one step further: in addition to this freedom, the company also supports the transitional home financially in order to secure and further develop projects in the long term.

What Betül particularly appreciates about abat is the trust and appreciation she experiences every day. "I can contribute my ideas, am listened to and don't feel left alone. It's a great feeling to work in a company that puts people first," she says.

For Betül, one thing is clear: abat is more than just a workplace - it is a place where she can grow, create and do good at the same time.

A career start with heart and home

Elwin has been part of the abat family for over a decade - and his story shows what we mean by cohesion and freedom. In 2010, fresh from his A-levels, Elwin was looking for an employer that suited him not only professionally but also personally. "I wanted something that was close to home," he says. Bremen as a location and the dual study program at abat sounded ideal. "That was my first and only job interview - and it was a direct fit."

A lot has happened since then: Elwin now works as an SAP consultant for a major car manufacturer and masters projects with passion and technical expertise. But for him, abat is about more than just the job. It's about a culture that supports and inspires.

A project close to our hearts: Support for young people with Ethictrain

In addition to his work at abat, Elwin has a special voluntary position: he is the third chairman of Ethictrain, a non-profit organization from Nordenham that helps young people in Germany to promote their personal development. Ethictrain now offers around 150 young people aged between 12 and 28 a platform where they are supported through regular meetings and coaching. "We want to offer young people a protective space where they can build an appreciative relationship with themselves and grow personally," explains Elwin. His commitment to the association is a matter close to his heart, and abat supports him on several levels.

abat as a partner: support for voluntary work

Last year, Elwin had the opportunity to present his project on abat TV - and the result was a direct donation pledge. But that's not all: during the European Football Championship, there was another fundraising campaign that raised a considerable amount for Ethictrain. "It's great how abat is behind the project and how we can support so many young people as a result," says Elwin gratefully.

This kind of support reflects what makes abat special: the freedom to do the important things in life. "abat is not just about work, but about allowing us to develop outside of work," says Elwin. This feeling of support motivates him to give his best every day - for his work and for his passion for volunteering.

Work, family and voluntary work in harmony

If you ask Elwin what abat means to him, he doesn't have to think twice. "For me, it's family. I felt that back in 2010, and nothing has changed since then." abat is about togetherness that goes far beyond the professional. This culture of cohesion and mutual trust is unique for Elwin.

But the flexibility that abat offers as an employer also plays a major role. With three children and a fulfilling voluntary job, his everyday life is anything but boring. "abat gives me the freedom to take care of the things that are close to my heart - and I really appreciate that," says Elwin. He manages to balance work, family and volunteering with ease.

Creating open spaces together

Elwin's story shows what abat is all about: giving people the freedom to live out their passions and develop to their full potential.

At abat, freedom is not just words, it is part of our DNA. Together with its employees, abat creates an atmosphere in which not only professional but also personal goals are given space. Join our Team!
